Peace begins with you. Peace begins with me.

September 21 we celebrate International Day Of Peace.

We live in polarizing times and I feel that it has never been more important to search for what unites us as it is always stronger than what divides us. Making peace is often hard, but keeping the peace is much more challenging because it takes dedication and understanding.
Many live in fear, with lack of respect; safety and dignity; and are forced to flee their homes in search of a better life.

A closer look at home. This week I took part in the A Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® to raise awareness in my community (Calgary, Alberta) about the serious causes, effects, and remediation to men’s sexualized violence against women.

Peace is not simply the absence of violence.

Peace requires openness.

Peace requires tolerance.

Peace means acceptance and diversity.

Peace means inclusion.

We all can do our part to strengthen the dignity of others.

I am reminded of the starfish story.

Starfish Peace

So tomorrow around the water-cooler; look around you. There may be colleagues who are living in fear; who have taken a stand against violence; who have walked a mile in her shoes… ‘Together for Peace: Respect, Safety, and Dignity for All.’

Peace with Sue
Peace with Tamara

Onwards and Upwards.
